Eric Buchanan and Michael Reese of the UMN West Central Research and Outreach Center” have provided the following description:

“The University of Minnesota West Central Research and Outreach Center is a 1,100-acre research farm located near the rural community of Morris. In 2013, the WCROC commissioned the first in-the-world wind-to-ammonia pilot plant. Currently, a next generation green ammonia pilot plant is being installed utilizing novel technologies specifically designed to operate using variable and intermittent sources of electricity. The new plant will use co-located wind and solar power to produce up to 1 mtd of anhydrous ammonia.  Visitors will be some of the first to tour the new facility.

In addition to green hydrogen and ammonia, WCROC is a leader in many other areas of renewable energy research, including agrivoltaics and strategic electrification with autonomous robots. Come experience leading-edge renewable energy research conducted in an agricultural setting.”

4th Symposium on Ammonia Energy Host, Professor Will Northrop adds,  “Tour attendees will also see an operating 200 kW, 100% ammonia-fueled engine generator during the tour. The genset implements the University of Minnesota and Aza Power System’s advanced ammonia fueling and ignition system. Don’t miss this demonstration!
